SUNLIGHTEN™ SAUNA SERVICES (November 19, 2018)
Purify, slenderize, and energize – You only get one body. Treat it right and you will be amazed at how well it treats you. One of the most immediate benefits is often a fantastic night’s sleep. Who doesn’t need that?
DETOXIFICATION
Detox from a Sunlighten™ sauna is 7 to 10 times greater than a conventional sauna. In a conventional sauna the average person sweats out 3% toxins and 97% water. In a Sunlighten sauna, the average person sweats out 20% toxins and 80% water!
IMPROVES CIRCULATION
Heating of muscles with infrared produces an increased blood flow level similar to that seen during exercise. Body temperature elevation also produces an increase in blood flow. Infrared heat assists in resolution of inflammatory infiltrates, edema and exudates. The increased peripheral circulation provides the transport needed to help evacuate the edema which can help end inflammation, decrease pain and help speed healing.
WEIGHT LOSS
A 30 minute infrared sauna session can burn up to 200-600 calories! As the body works to cool itself while using an infrared sauna, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate. Sunlighten’s infrared heat therapy raises core body temperature causing passive cardiovascular conditioning. Your body’s natural response to infrared heat therapy is to increase circulation and sweat. Check out the results with a heart rate monitor and you will be amazed!
LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE
Our Solocarbon® heaters were used in a clinical study with the University of Missouri Kansas City in 2005 and were shown to lower blood pressure from a 30 minute sauna session three times a week. Repeated infrared treatment improves impaired blood vessel functions in patients with high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. This suggests a preventative role for sauna use for arteriosclerosis.
PAIN RELIEF
Relieve back, neck, and arthritis pain with infrared sauna heat therapy. Researchers studying HRP (Heat Responsive Pain) have observed remarkable therapeutic benefits by using continuous low level heat therapy for treating lower back and upper body pain, all conditions that fall under the HRP classification.
SKIN PURIFICATION
Improve your skin’s appearance with regular use of a Sunlighten sauna. Open wounds heal quicker with reduced scarring. Infrared heat therapy helps acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns and any skin lesions or cuts. It also reduces wrinkles, makes skin look radiant, firms and improves skin tone and elasticity. Regular use may also help reduce cellulite trapped beneath the skin, lessen the appearance of scars, and help burns heal significantly.
Frequently Asked Questions
I hate being hot.
Okay, so this one isn’t a question but I hear it a LOT. And I get it. As much as I make it a point not to complain about the weather, summer in SC can be miserable. Until you experience it for yourself, you’ll have to take my word for it when I say that Sunlighten infrared saunas feel nothing like sitting outside on a miserably hot day. They simply don’t. This heat is comforting. It’s relaxing. It’s soothing. It welcomes you in like a warm blanket on a cold day – even in the middle of summer.

- Reduce or eliminate inflammation.
- Get better sleep.

Why didn’t I sweat?
Some people don’t like to sweat, others want all they can get. It is common to sweat only a little or even not at all during your first or second infrared sauna session. Your body is getting used to what this sauna thing is all about. By your third session you are much more inclined to work up a good sweat. A few other contributing factors could be that you haven’t had enough water in the past few days, or that you just came from a cooler environment and have a bit more to go to get warmed up. The great thing about infrared saunas is that sweating isn’t the only way to benefit – it’s those amazing infrared waves! You get their benefit even if you never break a sweat. If you do want to sweat as much as possible, let us know and we’ll make sure the sauna is turned up and even give you a pro tip about increasing sweat output.
Is the sauna clothing optional?
Here at Indigo Water, one sauna is NOT clothing optional. That’s the community sauna. If you opt for the privacy of the Serene sauna then feel free to go in with just a towel.
What should I wear?
The short answer is workout type clothes. Since these saunas are effective because of their infrared emissivity, it is recommended that you do not wear clothing with a high amount of synthetic fibers as they block the infrared waves. (100% spandex is definitely not what you want) If you are looking for sauna friendly clothing options, Indigo Water offers a selection of Cariloha Bamboo Fit tops and bottoms for men and women for purchase. They are natural fibers, moisture wicking, cooler than cotton, and odor resistant – the perfect combination for sauna use!
Should I bring a towel?
How long does a session take?
For starters, a session may last only 10 minutes. If you feel comfortable and well hydrated, feel free to stretch it out longer. You can work your way up to as much as 30 or even 40 minutes. Remember to listen to your body and to stay hydrated.
How hot is the sauna?
Sunlighten says that optimal temperature for their saunas is 100-130 degrees. You can have it as hot as 145 degrees but it isn’t necessary to receive the benefits. No need to put undue stress on yourself as you endure higher temperatures. This is all about relaxing and rejuvenating your body and your mind, and, of course, the infrared waves.
What is the difference between a traditional and an infrared sauna?
For starters, our infrared saunas are a much more comfortable heat than a traditional sauna which often run at 180 – 185 degrees. From there, it’s all about the infrared benefits that go far beyond what a traditional sauna can accomplish. That being said, traditional saunas are still better than no sauna at all.
How often do I need to come to experience the benefits?
As long as you are staying hydrated, it’s difficult to overdo it. A couple of times a week would be amazing. Once a week is great. Once a month is better than not at all. Some benefits are noticeable after only a visit or two, for some you’ll notice as a more gradual shift over 6 to 9 months.
